A balanced diet involves consuming appropriate amount of nutrients (carbohydrate, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins) to support the right energy needs of the body without inducing excessive weight gain from consuming excessive amounts. Consuming a balanced diet helps in lowering many chronic health diseases such as obesity, heart diseases, diabetes, hypertension and cancer.
For a balanced diet, it is important to choose foods from all food groups (cereals, pulses, poultry and meat, milk and milk products, fruits and vegetables).
